A date has been set for the observance and celebration of the life of Dr. Jason Martin, former director (with the late Jyoti Chrystal) of Montclair’s Starseed Center.
All of his many students, friends, colleagues and clients are invited to attend.
We will be gathering at the Commonwealth Club, 26 Northview Avenue, in Upper Montclair, NJ at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 18, 2021. The celebration will begin at 2:00pm.

Jason Martin, beloved teacher, writer, therapist and yogi passed away at Clara Maass Medical Center after a short illness on May 10. Along with his late wife Jyoti Chrystal, Jason was one of the co-founders of the Starseed Center for Yoga and Wellness in Montclair.

Jason was a native of Boston, Massachusetts and was educated in the public schools of that city and at Saint Mark’s Preparatory School in Southborough.

He attended Yale University, graduating with a BA in medieval studies and went on for his PhD in French and comparative literature.

He taught at a number of colleges and universities, including West Virginia University, the University of Alaska and Michigan Technological University.

During his school years, Jason traveled extensively, living in France and on the island of Rhodes, where he became immersed in the local languages and culture.

He studied meditation extensively, eventually forsaking his academic career to teach meditation and yoga. His work included his practice of Shamanic empowerment therapy with which he was able to assist a large number of clients. and together with his late wife Jyoti he educated a generation of yoga teachers and practitioners.

Jason is the author of three books: Voluptua (2013), Ayahuasca Nights (2014) and Barcelona Blues (2017) and was working on a fourth at the time of his death.

A long time resident of Montclair, he was active in a variety of civic and philanthropic organizations.

He is survived by his stepsons, John Feeney of San Francsico, Bill and Laura Feeney of London, England and their lovely flowers, Daisy & Poppy.

Proceeds will be used to help offset the costs of settling Jason's estate, and organizing a celebration of his life and work. A date of his life's celebration is to follow.
