With the blessing of Liz's family, we are raising funds to honour Elizabeth Yanyi Close with a beautiful celebration of life ceremony, one that reflects her vibrant spirit, her artistry, and the deep impact she had on so many. Any support is a way of celebrating her life, her legacy, and the joy she brought into the world. Any additional funds collected will be put into a trust for her wonderful children.
Elizabeth Yanyi Close was an extraordinary Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara artist whose presence lit up every room she entered. Fiercely intelligent, deeply kind, and full of life, Elizabeth carried a spark that was impossible to ignore. She had a sharp wit and a wicked sense of humour, never afraid to speak her mind, and yes, she could swear like a sailor when the moment called for it (and often when it didn’t). It was all part of what made her the woman we all adored.
Her work and her spirit were grounded in a strong and unwavering sense of justice. She stood up for what was right, for her people, her community, and her culture, with both strength and heart. She loved her family fiercely and she gave so much of herself to those around her, and her loss is felt deeply by all who knew and loved her.
Liz’s life was shaped by laughter, love, culture and creativity. We now come together to honour her and support the family she loved so deeply.
