Writer Joe Robert Cole stated “Black Panther is a historic opportunity to be a part of something important and special, particularly at a time when African Americans are affirming their identities while dealing with vilification and dehumanization. The image of a black hero on this scale is just really exciting.” In the City and surrounding areas of Charleston, we have a large population of young black youth who should be afforded the chance for this monumental movie. I and my inner circle just want to celebrate this historic event while giving a few young kids the ability to enjoy it. This includes providing concessions and special gifts. Any support you offer would be greatly appreciated.
Now about me. My name is Allah Steadman. I’m originally from Brooklyn, NY. I have been in North Charleston, SC since 2005. Since I’ve been here I’ve noticed there are not many programs or places for lower income children to participate in. I myself have saw this firsthand in some of the places I or my family has lived. I believe that someone has to show these children (particularly our young black boys and girls) that there is someone out there who cares about them. That there is more to the world than just the ran down playground or dirt/no grass fields surrounding their neighborhoods. I believe this movie, this moment may be the spark to change someone’s life. All the funds will provide a ticket of entry and concessions for each child. Ages 7 and up. There will be multiple adults there to provide supervision of the event, and maybe even a guest speaker. If this event goes well there could be more down the road, but we have to start somewhere. Why not start with a movie of this magnitude for our people. Withdrawal of funds will come out of a business account I and my wife have, and any left over funds will go towards the next event that will be planned.
