A native of Windsor Locks, Connecticut, a public high school math teacher and coach, community theater star, friend, son, brother, uncle, husband, and father... Steve Wandzy passed unexpectedly while out on his nightly run during a family vacation.
His wife, and mother of his daughter Iris, Brianna Stronk wrote this following Steve's death:
"My best friend, my husband, my partner, and IC’s father died yesterday.
The words catch in my throat.
How is this possible? When am I going to wake up from this nightmare? Why? Why him? Why me? Why our little family?
We are on vacation. We were on vacation. On Cape Cod. Our favorite place. We were here the first week of August with my family. We are….we were here with Steve’s family this week.
We love the Cape.
We were married here.
We celebrated IC’s first and fourth birthdays here.
My husband died here.
I have always gravitated towards the idea of grief being like the ocean. Somewhat cruel yet appropriate here I guess. Sometimes it’s calm and you’re only in up to your ankles, other times it’s a storm and the waves feel like they are pulling you under and will never let you come back up again for air.
This is an out of body experience; I know that many of you have and will continue to experience this grief in your own lives for your own losses and for this one. I’m sorry. If I was ever not as caring or as thoughtful as I should have been, as so many of you lost partners, children, parents, and loved ones, I am sorry. I should have been a better friend.
I should have been a better wife. I should have told him. He was our everything. Our world. Our protector. Our provider. Our friend. Our supporter. Our very best cheerleader. Steve, you were our whole world."
Brianna and Iris will slowly move forward from Steve's passing, knowing that they were the loves of his life. We hope you will support them in any way you can, through prayers, tributes to Steve, or a financial contribution to see them through this time, and beyond. With gratitude and love.
