In Loving Memory of Faranisi "Sisi" Lauama (Kupu)
September 9, 1958 – July 17, 2025
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of our beloved aunt, sister, mother, and friend, Faranisi “Sisi” Lauama (Kupu), who entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 17, 2025. A woman of quiet strength, generous spirit, and unwavering faith, Sisi leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion to her family, church, and community.
Born on September 9, 1958, in Pago Pago, American Samoa, Sisi was the daughter of Sione and Teuila Kupu, who raised her in the values of faith, humility, and service. She was one of nine siblings and remained closely connected to her family throughout her life. She is lovingly remembered by her brothers and sisters: Rev. Dr. Chester Aumua, Feliciano A. Chica, Sue Imlay, Va'elaveamata Lopeti, Amata Lutali, Bernice Tuitele, Rosa Maiava, and her late sister Pisila Wily.
Sisi graduated from Carson High School in 1978 and went on to work in data entry before returning to American Samoa, where she dedicated herself to nurturing young lives at Pago Pago Daycare. Her work was more than just a job—it was a ministry of care that reflected her deep love for children and community.
She was deeply rooted in her faith and played an active role in her church and village, always ready to lend a helping hand, offer a word of prayer, or share a story about her cherished family. Her late husband, Manumalo Lauama, passed away in 2018, but her strength never wavered. She is survived by her children: Joan Kim (Pulefa'asisina), Daniel Lauama, Peter Lauama, Mahana Lutali, Tiresa Lauama, and James Lauama, each of whom she spoke of with tremendous love and pride.
At this time, we are still gathering details and coordinating with her children to honor her life and legacy. The funeral services will be held in American Samoa with date to be announced.
We have created this GoFundMe to help support her family with funeral expenses, travel, and the many unexpected costs that come with such a sudden loss. Your kindness, prayers, and support during this time mean the world to us and will help give Sisi the farewell she deserves.
Thank you for helping us honor a woman who gave so much of herself to others.
With love,
Sisi's family
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV)
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
