Remembering Riley Jones
(July 10, 2005 – August 4, 2025)
On Monday, August 4th, our beloved Riley Jones — daughter, sister, aunty, and friend — was tragically taken from us at just 20 years old.
Riley was the ninth of ten siblings, and from the very beginning, she had a gift for making people feel welcome, included, and loved. She was always smiling, always laughing — the kind of person who could brighten any room just by being in it.
A proud 2023 graduate of Shaker Heights High School, Riley’s future was full of promise. She began her working life at Target but soon felt called to more community-focused roles — caring for children with special needs and serving as a valet at the Cleveland Clinic. Her ultimate dream was to become a nurse, a path perfectly suited for her compassionate spirit.
Riley knew how to show up for the people she loved. When her mother was diagnosed with cancer, she cared for her through her final months in 2024. She was a devoted aunty — taking her nieces and nephew to daycare each morning, showing up for bedtime hugs, and recently helping her sister care for a newborn baby. Her love was quiet but steady, and her presence was a constant gift.
On August 4th, during a dispute, Riley was shot and killed by her boyfriend.
Our family, friends, and community are devastated. Her loss is not just a statistic — it is a hole in our hearts, a future stolen, and a family forever changed.
Riley’s death is also a heartbreaking reminder of the silent epidemic of intimate partner violence. Far too many women — especially young women — are hurt or killed each year by someone who claimed to love them. These tragedies often happen behind closed doors and go unspoken.
We share Riley’s story not only to honor her life, but to raise awareness. If her story helps even one person recognize the signs of abuse, leave a harmful situation, or reach out to someone in need, then her voice will not be silenced.
Many have asked how they can help during this unimaginable time. We are deeply grateful for every prayer, kind word, and act of care. We have created this GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses and give our family the space to grieve without financial strain.
If you feel moved to contribute, we are sincerely thankful. If you cannot, sharing this page, saying her name, and holding her memory close means just as much.
Thank you for remembering Riley — not just for how she died, but for how she lived.
