We are heartbroken to share that Huntly Gordon, lovingly known as Pope Dementia, The Last of the San Francisco Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, has passed away at 91 after a long, vibrant life of creativity, activism, and community.
For many years, Zachary Brown was his primary caregiver and closest "chosen" family, supporting him with daily needs and companionship.
Now, after Popie’s sudden passing, Zach - also known as Sister Morticia Mourningwood - is carrying the responsibilities of making final arrangements. Because he is not biological family, he has not been granted bereavement leave, so Zach has been forced to take unpaid time-off to make arrangements for Pope's final journey, organize remembrance services, clean out Pope's apartment before May 17th. He has to manage logistics, his work, and his grief all at once.
We are raising funds to give Zach a small cushion so he can take unpaid time to handle final arrangements without risking his basic expenses.
Zach helped Pope in his final years - we're hoping the community can help Zach through this incredibly difficult time.
Any amount helps. If you cannot donate, sharing this fundraiser and passing along memories or kind words about Popie is deeply appreciated. Thank you for helping us honor his life and support the person who stood by him to the very end.
