Celebrating Matt Willson’s Life - Thank you

Hello Everyone…..friends near and far. I am posting this go fund me for my son Matthew Willson who tragically passed Friday, July 15 at the young age of 41. Matt had been in the hospital over the past year for surgery to remove a blood clot that went from hip to knee, pneumonia and finally, a horrific and tragic brain bleed that put him in the hospital this time…. and a secondary bleed one week later that took this beautiful soul. The hospital told us it was from a certain blood thinner he had been put on and was a side effect. He had severe headaches, nausea, had lost his vision and ability to think and speak clearly.
Matt was born with a spinal cord tumor that left him quadriplegic. This never, ever stopped him from being positive in light of pain and hurdles in his life. He just didn’t complain! Always smiling, always inspiring and always a student of life. Matt adored his family and friends. Esp all of the members of the SFL -Simulation Football League - which allowed a beautiful soul stuck in an almost useless and 5’1” deformed body the ability to be able to be #12 …Matt Willson….all time scoring quarterback for the Aztecs. Here he could run and outgun the best of them. He is a hall of famer with them and we will be forever grateful to the League. Our goal is to give Matt a Celebration of his Life….the really big party that he had always dreamed of having some day.
We know that family, friends, classmates have been asking what they can do and this program is what we thought of in order to reach the most people and to make it easy for them.
A couple of Matt’s best friends, Mike and Everett, immediately stepped to the plate to help us in our time of grief and to shoulder some of the burden in trying to get everything just right for Matt. Thank you, guys!
Matt had shared this with me a few years back. Just so that you have a window to his soul. Government Agencies had to come and interview him for disability services every year. They used to ask him the dreaded question of “do you ever contemplate suicide”? He responded each and every time, “I have the choice to be happy or miserable. I choose happy”! That was my beautiful, spiritual Matt. He was always wise beyond his years. And a sense of humor that can’t be beat. He taught us all about compassion and being stronger than we thought that we ever could be. Thank you, my son. I love you and miss you so much! ❤️
Thank you for any assistance you can give us to make a beautiful tribute. He was loved by so many. Matt will have his party and we will all share memories…..with laughter and tears.
God Bless
