It’s with deep sadness and love that we share the sudden passing of our beloved uncle, Javier “Javi” Fontan, at just 55 years old. Javi was more than a son, a brother, and an uncle—he was the heartbeat of our family, and his loss leaves a space that can never truly be filled.
Bronx-born and proud of his Puerto Rican roots, Javi lived with unmatched energy, loyalty, and heart. He was the life of every party, the man with the aux cord, the one spinning salsa, freestyle, old-school hip-hop, and whatever it took to bring people together. He was the DJ, the entertainer, the storyteller—and somehow, he always knew the perfect song to match the moment.
A diehard Yankees and Giants fan, Javi was a true New Yorker through and through. But beyond the teams and the music, what defined him most was his love. Javi didn’t just care for his family—he was family to so many. Blood didn’t define it. If he called you family, you were family. And he loved you like a brother, a sister, a cousin, or a nephew. His loyalty ran deep. If you were down, he was there—no questions asked. That kind of support, that kind of unconditional love, was his superpower.
As a confirmed Catholic, we truly believe Javi was gifted by the Holy Spirit. He had a way of connecting with everyone—no matter your background, your race, who you loved, your favorite song, or your team. He poured out love without judgment, brought people together without effort, and lit up every room he walked into. His laugh was contagious. Making Javi laugh felt like winning an award—because when he laughed, the whole room joined in. He could make a child laugh, share jokes with his peers, or sit with elders in full conversation. He was a man of all people.
We’ve created this GoFundMe to help cover funeral and memorial costs and give Javi the farewell he deserves—surrounded by the people he brought together, the music he loved, and the stories he helped create.
If you knew Javi, you know how deeply he impacted lives. Please consider donating or sharing to help us honor the man who gave so much of himself to everyone around him.
Thank you for your love and support. We’re going to miss him more than words can ever say.
