The sudden passing of our beloved Dominique Ly’Var has left his family, friends, colleagues, students, and the entire beauty community devastated.

Dom was a light—a bright, beautiful light that shined for everyone fortunate enough to know him. That has been the sentiment shared consistently because it is simply the truth. He was a SUPERSTAR—not only because of his extraordinary talent, but because of the person he was. He was humble, supportive, kind, loyal, and endlessly generous with his gifts. He was a global artist and educator, the creator of The Uzuri Method, and a cornerstone of the Texture vs Race Collaborative. But titles could never fully capture who Dom was, what he meant to us, or how brightly his light touched the lives of so many.

Dom had a presence and a gift that were larger than life, yet he never considered himself too important to support others in the smallest ways. He showed up wherever he was needed—not for recognition or applause, but because that was simply who he was. He made people feel supported, valued, and cared for. His humility was just as powerful as his presence, and his loyalty was something you could depend on.

As an educator, Dom was unmatched. He embodied a genuine passion for education and for the care, celebration, and understanding of curls and coils. He was widely known for his precision in curly cutting and his masterful styling of textured hair, but his gift extended far beyond technique. His teaching had rhythm, flow, and an ease that made even the most complex lessons feel accessible. He didn’t simply demonstrate what to do—he helped artists understand the hair in front of them and made them feel seen, capable, and inspired. When Dom stepped onto a stage, he commanded the room like a celebrity rock artist, leaving everyone changed by what they had experienced.

Dom poured into other artists and gave so much of himself to the people around him. He was a walking inspiration and a living lesson in how to move through this industry with talent, humility, loyalty, and heart. Everyone fortunate enough to experience him will carry a piece of him forward.

He honored every person who sat in his chair by seeing them fully, caring for their hair with intention, and making them feel as beautiful and valued as the fabric he so masterfully shaped.

So many people have reached out asking what they can do and how they can support those who loved Dom most. Right now, we are all carrying an enormous amount of grief, love, and energy with nowhere to place it. This fund gives us somewhere meaningful to put that love.

At the center of this unimaginable loss is Dom’s beloved husband, Damien Scott. As we grieve together as a community, we hold Damien closest. This fund is our opportunity to surround him with love, prayer, and tangible support as he faces a life-altering loss that words cannot adequately express. Contributions will help create a beautiful celebration of life worthy of the light, joy, artistry, and love Dom gave so freely, while also helping Damien and Dom’s family offset the unexpected expenses surrounding his services and the difficult days ahead.
