Honoring the Life & Legacy of Atiba Theophille

On December 13, 2025, our family lost a beloved son, brother, uncle, educator, and friend, Atiba Steve Alexander Theophille, at the age of 41...

Atiba was born on January 11, 1984, in Trinidad & Tobago to Morris and Joan Theophille, and his life was rooted in faith, learning, and family from the very beginning. His journey carried him through Trinidad, Venezuela, and ultimately the United States, where he made his home in Brooklyn, New York, and devoted his life to education and service.

Atiba lived with intention and depth. Early in life, he explored monastic discernment, a path that shaped his quiet strength, reverence, and thoughtful presence. Though he ultimately followed another calling, that spiritual grounding never left him.

Teaching became the space where Atiba’s gifts flourished. Beginning in 2008 at St. Joseph High School in Brooklyn, he served as a devoted English educator and eventually as Chair of the English Department. He was known as a firm yet compassionate teacher who held high expectations, believed deeply in his students, and guided them with warmth, humor, and care. To many, he was more than a teacher... He was a mentor, a steady presence, and a source of encouragement.

Atiba also found joy in music, especially playing the guitar, where rhythm and meaning met once again...

He is now reunited with his father, Morris, and his brother, Dexter, who preceded him in death. He is lovingly survived by his mother Joan, his sisters Maxine and Natalie, his nieces and nephews, extended family, and a wide community of friends, colleagues, and former students whose lives were forever touched by his presence.

This GoFundMe has been created to support our family with funeral and memorial expenses, as well as the immediate needs that arise during such an unexpected loss. Any contribution, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated. If you are unable to give, we ask that you please share this page and keep our family in your prayers...

May his laughter echo.
May his love remain.
And may his memory be a blessing to all...

With gratitude and love,
The Theophille Family
