Celebrating and Honoring Caley Epstein

We are profoundly saddened by the loss of Caley Epstein on December 18th, 2020.   Cal shone brightly.  He was a giving, caring, funny, clever, mischievous boy who saw it as his role to take care of others...making him an amazing friend.

Memories and pictures of Cal’s life from his friends and family can be found here:  https://memories.net/timeline/caley-epstein-40970#.X903Gi-czRN.link

Cal’s story in support of the Fake & Fatal campaign is captured here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvtuVX627ow&t=2s

As friends and supporters of the Epstein family, we are looking for ways to remember and honor Cal, so have set up this fund to capture donations that so many of you are seeking to make.

The initial goal was set at $18 because that was Cal's age, and the number 18 has special meaning in Hebrew, where it represents "chai" or life.  It was also an indication that while there was no specific goal or target recipient in mind at the time, the Epstein’s knew they would like to take action at some point and so many people expressed a desire to show their support in this way.   The Epsteins have been deeply moved and honored by the amazing generosity shown by the donations to date, and are truly grateful for this outpouring of support.

The Epsteins now know with more specificity how they plan to use these funds and wanted to update this site to reflect that.  In honor of Cal’s life, they will be exploring scholarship opportunities related to Cal’s passions and character such as theatre, photography, music, giving, and friendship.  And related to Cal’s death, they will be directing funds towards awareness and education about teen mental health and the scourge of ‘fenta-pills’ (Fentanyl filled poisonous pills masquerading as Xanax, Oxy, Percocet, etc), in addition to organ donation.  More information about fenta-pills can be found here as well as an opportunity to make a direct donation to a 501(c)(3):  https://www.songforcharlie.org/

Here is a Today Show clip on the topic you may have heard about in the news:  https://www.today.com/parents/dr-laura-berman-today-about-son-s-overdose-t208461

The Epsteins are partnering with the Beaverton School District, Beaverton Police Department, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington County Public Health Department to raise awareness of the dangers of buying pills on social media with the Fake & Fatal campaign: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/departments/communications-community-involvement/fake-and-fatal

The Epsteins were also honored during the Donate Life Northwest Gift of Life Awards:
