Honoring the Life of Alla Cross
Our great friend Alla Cross recently passed away after a long and courageous battle with multiple cancers. She faced a long illness with incredible strength, grace, and determination, never allowing her challenges to define the joy and happiness she brought to others.
Alla was a vibrant and beloved member of the Cedar Rapids music community for over 25 years since the mid 90’s. As an immigrant, she brought extraordinary talent, passion, love and spirit to the orchestral world. Through her work with the Cedar Rapids Symphony and the wider musical community, she shared the gift of music with countless audiences and fellow musicians. Music wasn’t just something Alla did, it was a large part of who she was.
But beyond her musical gifts, Alla will be remembered most for her heart and welcoming nature. She had an outgoing personality that drew people in immediately. She truly cared about others around her and had a way of making everyone feel welcome and valued. Her warmth and kindness created deep friendships and lasting connections throughout our community.
Above all, Alla was a devoted mother. She raised two children as a single parent, especially dedicating her last energy to their well-being and future. Her love for them was truly boundless. Her son, who has Down syndrome, brought immense joy to her life, and she fully loved both of her children.
Recently, Alla faced mounting health challenges while still trying to continue the music she loved so deeply. Despite pain and uncertainty, she remained brave, hopeful, and full of life. Her strength inspired everyone around her.
As her family grieves her loss, they are also facing the financial burden of funeral expenses and related costs. We are coming together as friends, fellow musicians, and members of the community to support Alla’s children during this difficult time.
