And the tradition continues… but this year, it means more than ever.
For over a decade now, every year on my birthday, I’ve asked my friends and family to join me in doing charity or random acts of kindness. It started big with a whole day of charity when I was 20, some years it's been a handful of simple gestures and friends to help create a ripple of light in a distracted world. Year after year, it grew. Together we filled candy machines, wrote love notes to strangers, donated birthdays to charity, and proved that kindness really does multiply.
But this year… this year is different. This year is more impactful as we have grown on a community level.
This year, I finally get to donate my birthday to a charity I founded myself through grief, one that was born from both heartbreak and hope. ❤️
✨ Grieving Angels, now an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. ✨
Our mission is to create and deliver grief care packages for families navigating hospice, child loss, or unexpected loss and to guide kids and teens with compassion through service, creativity, and community. Because no child should grieve alone, and no family should walk through loss unseen.
This year for my birthday wish, I’m asking YOU and your friends to be part of the next chapter!
We are fundraising to make HUNDREDS of grief care packages for families and hospitals this holiday season and we have not one, but at least TWO youth-led community events coming up:
November 30th and December 14th the sign up to volunteer will be on the Grieving Angels Facebook Page today. Follow for updates.
And here’s something truly incredible… I truly believe we can fundraise and make at least 250 grief care packages and...
KARE 11 News will be joining us to cover the event and share the story of how our community is coming together showing that even through grief, kindness can shine and we can accomplish amazing things!
So this year, I’m not just asking for birthday wishes and random acks of kindness....
I am asking for that AND
I’m asking for impact larger than a ripple.... this year we are creating WAVES!
Do you think we can get grief care packages to every hospital this holiday season??? I think we can but only if we all work together and share this plan!
You can help in so many ways:
Donate: every dollar goes towards our care package supplies and materials, our youth events to help children understand griefs and 501(c)(3) needs.
Volunteer! Please bring your kids, your friends, your heart.
Sponsor: local businesses can help make these events thrive! Odds are if you are in Becker, MN I have sent you an email... please check your spam?
Share, share, share... help us reach more hearts, because compassion grows in numbers. Seriously sharing can be one of the most helpful things and it truly leads to that snowball effect.
You’ve all helped me build this movement of kindness year after year, and now it’s official, this is getting big and we can help friends!
We are making grief visible. We are teaching children that love doesn’t end when someone is gone. We are showing families that they are not forgotten.
When I think back on my birthday wishes from years past the cookies baked, the quarters in candy machines, the letters left for strangers, the fundraising time and time again. I see how every act of kindness led us here. To this moment. To Grieving Angels. I always helped and now I feel it's time to lead and create and celebrate.
So as I turn another year older (and hopefully wiser ), my wish remains the same... that we keep the light alive, together. Show this world the light you have to shine.
Let’s see how far the ripple goes this year.
Let’s make this birthday one that lingers. I want to see if we can get support to every family grieving this holiday season. Time with the ones we love are really the most important moments and some have to wipe away tears as the holiday is here.
