Celebrating the Life of Valerie Rutz

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved friend, mother, and teacher, Valerie Rutz, after a courageous four-year battle with stage IV cancer. Valerie fought with unmatched grace, humor, and determination—and even in the darkest moments, she continued to inspire us with her strength and fierce love.

I’m Daniel, one of Valerie’s longtime friends and part of the tribe that adored her. Like so many of you, I’ve been deeply impacted by her love, humor, and fierce spirit. I’m organizing this fundraiser to honor her life and support her family—especially her two incredible sons, Noah (17) and Aidan (21)—as we navigate this heartbreaking loss together.

Valerie was a single mom, a devoted teacher, and a light to everyone she met. She leaves behind a global community of friends, students, and loved ones whose lives were forever changed by her presence.

We are raising funds for Valerie’s burial and a celebration of life—the way she would have wanted: with music, storytelling, connection, and joy. Your donation will help cover funeral costs and give her family and friends the space to grieve, remember, and celebrate the remarkable woman she was.
