UPDATE: Incredible News: Goal Met & Memorial Fully Funded!
I wanted to share a massive update and express my deepest gratitude to everyone who supported this campaign. Thanks to your incredible generosity, we have reached our final financial goal for my sister's memorial.
We received some wonderful news: The entire cost of the direct cremation has been secured. We especially want to thank my dad and stepmom, Roxanne, for their immense help and support during this difficult time.
Because of this, the money you donated has now covered 100% of the cost for the Celebration of Life, the urn, and the keepsakes.
We have closed the fundraising campaign. Your kindness has relieved an enormous financial burden, allowing our family to focus completely on celebrating her life. We are forever grateful.
We will be in touch soon with the final details for the Celebration of Life.
Dear Friends and Family,
It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we lost our precious sister, aunt, daughter, and friend, Rebecca (Becky) Ruby, on October 11th 2025.
She had a very short but devastating battle with cancer, having been diagnosed in July 2025. As many of you know, Becky was a woman of unwavering faith and a true beacon of light. She lived a life of joy, always listened, and loved each and every one of you fiercely. Her strongest connection was the one she shared with my daughter, Jennifer. That special bond— is a treasured memory we will carry forever. True to her strong Christian spirit, she wouldn't want us to be sad; she would want us to celebrate that she is now with God, whole and free from pain.
We are establishing this GoFundMe with an initial goal of $3,000 to cover the most urgent financial needs and ensure we can fulfill her wishes for a beautiful send-off.
A Difficult Time & Urgent Deadlines
This sudden loss comes with a number of time-sensitive financial burdens. The mortuary can hold her for a brief period, meaning we must have the cremation funds secured by Tuesday, October 21st, 2025. Furthermore, we must be out of her apartment by October 27th. It is also with great sadness that her 42nd birthday falls on October 24th, making this time especially difficult as we work to finalize her care and belongings.
Our Financial Needs & Goal Breakdown
The funds raised will be immediately directed to these four critical areas:
1. Cremation Costs (Primary Priority): The immediate and firm cost for the cremation is $1,988.68. This is our absolute first step.
2. Celebration of Life: Funds to host a joyful gathering (estimated at $~600) to celebrate her life with food and love.
3. Keepsakes and Urn: Funds to purchase a simple wooden urn, and up to 10 cremation necklaces that she specifically requested, for her closest loved ones ($~150 total) so they can always carry a piece of her with them.
4. Logistics and Scattering: Funds to cover the final move-out expenses (gas and basic supplies) and the cost of travel for the final scattering of her ashes in Fort Bragg, a place that was very meaningful to her.
How You Can Help
Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a direct and immediate impact on our ability to honor her wishes. If you are unable to donate, we simply ask that you share this fundraiser and continue to hold our family in prayer during this difficult time.
We plan to share the details and formal invitations for her Celebration of Life soon.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of Becky's life and for walking this journey of faith and remembrance with us.
With love and gratitude,
Dominique (sister) and the family of Rebecca Ruby
