Celebrate Mayah's (Cayo's) Life: Help with Memorial Costs

Mayah (Cayo) Anne Murchison
June 13, 1999 – May 29, 2025

On Thursday, May 29 Mayah Anne Murchison (known to some as Cayo), age 25 passed away, ending a long, brave battle with mental health challenges, addiction and trauma. She took her own life in one of her favorite places: a shady ravine beside the stream where she had spent many hours playing and contemplating over the years.

Born in Springfield, VT, Mayah explored the world with curiosity and passion and led a vibrant, adventurous life. She attended the Vermont Wilderness School and was a 2015 graduate of Kroka Expeditions Vermont and Ecuador semester program. Mayah enjoyed traveling, reading, walking, and spending time with friends and family and her beloved dog Cleo.

From backpacking in South America and Europe to traveling across the United States, Mayah was a fearless adventurer. She sought out beauty, freedom, and wonder wherever she went, living with a spirit that was bold, curious, and unbound.

She is survived by her parents: Todd Murchison and Coretta Bliss of Brattleboro; Rebekah and Neal Perry of Brownington; her brother and sister-in-law Evan and Kati Murchison of North Carolina; siblings Mikaela, Spencer, Dawn and Max Perry; grandparents Jay and Janet Bailey of Brattleboro and William and Caryl Murchison of Colorado and Jane McBee of North Carolina; and an abundance of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will cherish her memory.

From Erica Breen, aunt:

This is a crowdsourced, community produced memorial service and burial. With the help of countless volunteers, we are doing almost everything in a homemade fashion, including food, flowers, PA system, hosting out of town family and friends, care of the deceased, building the casket, and digging the grave. However, there are a few unavoidable expenses such as tent and table rentals, travel for distant family members, and funeral home expenses for the things we're not set up to do ourselves.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 7 at 11 am
at Fair Winds Farm, 513 Upper Dummerston Road, Brattleboro, VT.

All are welcome. Dress for an outdoor service if weather permits and consider bringing a potluck dish to share at a meal following the service. Private burial to follow.

My name is Denise Glover, and I have been asked by members of the family to create this GoFundMe on their behalf.
