Dawn Karen Jones known to most, as Lil Bit was a warrior. She fought for over 20 years with multiple illnesses to be here for her loved ones. Unfortunately, she lost that fight on May 23rd 2025. Leaving behind her loving daughter that has been an incredible advocate for her throughout all of her doctors appointments and hospitalizations. Latoya Kirkland held her mom’s hand through every step of the way with strength, diligence and the utmost care. She was still holding her hand as Lil Bit took her final breath.
I would like to share just a little insight of how inspirational she was to all of those who knew and loved her:
“As I sit here writing this with tears running down my face I know that Lil Bit is finally at peace. Lil Bit will forever hold a special place in my heart; she was like a second mom to me. She was always there to listen and give advice without judgment. We would have cookouts and a few drinks and there was always so much laughter and memories shared. She loved everybody unconditionally and always had an unexpected joke that would make you laugh uncontrollably; I will forever cherish all of the laughter that we shared during the good time and the bad”… Alison
“One thing I’ll always remember about Littles is her snappy attitude and back talking. Nothing could get past her. She was a little firecracker that always had something to say about something. I’ll miss Littles and we’ll see her again some day. Heaven gained another angel”….Amanda
“Lils was my soul mom and I was her other daughter. She was the mom who knew what I was really about. She never really got mad or upset with all the riffraff Toya and I would get ourselves into as kids. Lils was the cool and crazy mom. She was caring and loving in her own unique witty ways. She loved being happy and her laughter was as beautiful and joyful, when we laughed together, we healed together. Cracking jokes and laughing with Lils will definitely be how I will cherish our memories forever. I love you Lils.”….Ayi
“She was so fun to be around and was always up for a good time. I’ll always remember how much she loved Charlie, and she really loved her too. She looked out for Penelope when she was little and I would bring her over to Toya’s and she always included me like I was family. You will always be missed, forever loved, and in our hearts.”…Jamie
“I will always remember Miss Jones’s smile and laughter. Her laugh can heal anyone’s sadness. It’s magical her warmth, kindness and silly personality, You will definitely be missed.”…Maria
“I want to write about someone who’s had a deep and lasting impact in mu life Lil Bit. Lilt Bit is strength wrapped in skin, She’s been through more than most can bear; yet she was still here. pushing forward. And was a spirit you couldn’t ignore.
What stays with me the most is the day she stood proud to watch her daughter, Latoya walk across that stage and receive her Master’s degree. I saw it in her eyes – That mix of pride , love and quiet pain. It was a moment that said “no matter what, I was here. I made it to this.”
Lil Bit didn’t just show up, she stood tall in her own way. That day she wasn’t defined by her choices or her struggles. She was defined by her presence, her love, and the legacy she helped create.
She’s taught me that people are not just one thing. They are love, flaws, resilience, and history. And Lil Bit? She’s all that and more.
I carry her strength with me and I always will “…Stephanie
“Today we remember who I addressed as “little” ever since the first day we met 7 years ago. Little became so much more than just a patient or resident at my work place .She was a bright bold presence in my life. She was feisty, fearless, and had a sarcasm so smart that most people missed the humor, but I got it, and it cracked me up every time. We shared so many private laughs in between the chaos of work. Laughs that lasted so long that our stomach and face muscles would get so sore not to mention our eyes so puffy and red from the crying of laughing so hard.
So today, I hope we can honor her the way she wanted, not in sadness, but in the joy of remembering her strength, her spark, and her wicked sense of humor. She may be gone, but she left a permanent imprint on my heart. I will miss her dearly, and I’ll keep laughing for the both of us”… Sue
I set up this Go Fund Me to help my best friend/sister Latoya provide for the best memorial /send off for her mom, a resilient woman that was an inspiration and a mother figure to so many.
When we began to realize things weren’t going to get better, in Lil Bit’s own words she said she was ready and when it was her time she would tell us all “Tallyho!”
