My best friend Kolbe - who is like a brother to me is graduating college!!!! This is a HUGE deal. Why?
Kolbe was a highschool dropout.
When you don't graduate from highschool EVERY statistic is against you.
1. In the US high school dropouts commit about 75% of all crime. (He has never been to jail)
2. Out of all the high school dropouts younger than 24 in 2018 only 90% even had a GED. (Kolbe is graduating from CU Denver)
3. The average salary for dropouts is $30k (He is already CRUSHING it)
4. In the US the overall dropout rate for college is 40% (HE IS GRADUATING DID I MENTION)
WOW!!!
Now I couldn't find the % of dropouts that end up with a college degree but I bet it's less than 20%.
SO-- Kolbe dropped out of high school and got his GED in 2009. After moving to new states, getting into some bad things, and landing himself in Colorado he made it to Red Rocks Community College. After being there for 2 years he decided to transfer to CU Denver and get a bachelor's in IT. His college has been funding through himself and his work.
I really do think this is a big deal and I want to celebrate his hard work and accomplishments. He has wanted a motorcycle for as long as I have known him. So that's why I created this Gofundme.
I am asking his friends and family to chip in (even $5) to get him this BIG graduation gift. No amount is too small. I am collecting donations until the middle of May where I will go find him a Yamaha. His partner and I will cover $1k of the amount (more if needed). If you donate anything please leave a note because I will be printing every message individually and putting it on the card with the title.
Seriously, Kolbe is a strong smart dude that could have had a very different life. He chose to make something of himself and all too often we focus on the things people didn't do rather than the things they did.
