In Loving Memory of Hector Manuel Sotomayor


April 12, 1944 – October 6, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, grandfather, and friend, Hector Manuel Sotomayor. Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Hector came into this world on April 12, 1944. At just five years old, he moved with his family to New York City, where his lifelong journey of hard work and perseverance began—as a young boy shining shoes on the busy streets of the Bronx.

Hector was a dreamer, a fighter, and a true entrepreneur. His determination led him to open a neighborhood bodega in the Bronx, which he ran for 27 years. More than just a business, it became a pillar of the community—a place where stories were shared, laughs were had, and neighbors became family.

Family was always at the center of Hector’s life.

From his first marriage to Gloria, he was blessed with three children: Debbie, Hector, and Bobby. Later, he welcomed another daughter, Christina, and in time, Hector married his second wife, Maria. Together, they had one daughter, Rosalie, and through their union, he also lovingly embraced Maria’s three sons—Billy, Johnny, and Mikey—as his own.

Together, they built a strong and beautiful blended family, grounded in love, mutual respect, and resilience—a true reflection of Hector’s generous spirit and open heart.

In 2005, Hector moved to Florida to enjoy his later years, but his health challenges began shortly after. Starting with his first heart bypass in 2015, he bravely endured one medical battle after another—facing heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, and cancer. Despite everything, Hector never lost his fighting spirit. Like the boxer he once was, he faced each day with grit, grace, and unwavering faith.

On October 6, 2025, Hector laid down his gloves for the last time and entered eternal rest. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and perseverance—a legacy carried on by his wife, children, grandchildren, and all those whose lives he touched.

As we grieve this incredible loss, we are reaching out with humility and love to ask for your support. We are seeking to raise funds to help cover the remaining funeral expenses and to provide Hector with a proper tombstone—a lasting tribute to a life lived with honor, sacrifice, and heart.
