Gregory Johnson, our beloved brother, uncle, significant other, friend, and co-worker departed this life on Monday, August 18, 2025 in Richmond, VA. Born January 29, 1956 in Washington, DC, Greg was raised by Mrs. Ada and Mr. Arthur Sharp Sr. (deceased) of Madisontown in Warrenton, VA. His foster parents raised him from babyhood to manhood, and loved and adored him as if he were their very own. From this union, Greg had many relatives: three sisters, Dolores Wilson of Suitland, MD; Gwen Butler Pegram of Lusby, MD; and Burnetta Ballinger of Alexandria, VA; one niece, Denise Wilson of Fredericksburg, VA; two nephews, James (Jimmy) Arthur Sharp of Alexandria, VA and Maurice Douglas of Washington, DC; and two great nieces, Jade Wilson of Richmond, VA and Gina Wilson of Capitol Heights, MD. Greg will also be remembered by his significant other, Evelyn Darr. Greg was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Sharp Jr.; a nephew, Laurence (Larry) Sharp; and two nieces, Diane Wilson and Debra (Debi) Wilson.

Greg graduated from Fauquier High School in Warrenton, VA, where he also played football, in addition to playing football for Taylor Junior High School. Greg was a long-time employee of Safeway where he started as a part-time employee while still in high school.

Greg pursued his passion for helping others who were less fortunate than himself in a career he embraced right up to his death. He worked as a shelter support staff and Family Focus Supervisor at Caritas Center in Richmond, VA, for 23 years. Greg inherently understood the value and mission of Caritas to create a safe space for those in need that allow healing and time to rebuild their lives. Greg also worked as a maintenance supervisor at Home Again, one of Richmond’s oldest homeless services organizations, for 22 years. As anyone who knew Greg, he helped anybody in need, always opened his home and heart up to whomever asked.

Greg was a special and very beloved man who had a boatload of friends, co-workers, and other relatives who admired him for who he was. Greg was genuine. We loved and will miss him dearly.

The family is in the process of making “A Celebration of Life” plans for Greg. A confirmed date has not been scheduled. Information to follow.
