Celebrate Crafty - a memorial for Lia de la Cruz
Lia de la Cruz suddenly passed away Jan 8, 2020. She was 41 years old.
As many of you know, Lia was a crafter and maker. She created with her hands and her heart. From baking and knitting to cutting paper and planning showers—all these were done out of love. Our DIY wedding four years ago continues to be an exemplar of her inventiveness being focused toward creating love and community for our families and friends. The wedding continues to inspire many we meet.

She loved being "Tia Lia". She knitted sweaters and hats. She sewed blankets and burp cloths. She made silly hats and toys.

Lia found community on crafty websites and Facebook. She participated in the Off Beat Brides website at least two years before we got married—and never left. Even after the OBB website shutdown, Lia moved with them to Facebook. She has helped many brides, both virtually and in real life. She continued to be close with the brides, sharing their joy and pain of newlywed life.
Lia was also active on many "My Favorite Murder" subgroups such as Bakerinos, Knitterinos, Plannerinos, and Murderinos of Color. She met and celebrated with the LA Murderinos when the Golden State Killer was caught. Some of you met her at the Go Wild planner conference in Las Vegas last year. When Lia returned, she had more creative energy than ever.
You are her communities. It is you Lia cared deeply for. She couldn't NOT help if at all possible.
Lia leaves behind family including her husband Bernard (me), her father David, her sister Sarah, and "Nephewzilla" Zion. She also leaves behind the hundreds of friends and fellow makers she has inspired and moved.

If you have been inspired by Lia, moved by Lia, helped by Lia—or even just amused by her Pumpkin Spice and Christmas movie reviews—your donation in any amount would be much appreciated. This will be to help cover the cost of a memorial. In addition, there are emergency room and ambulance costs that we have yet to estimate.
We are planning her memorial to be held in the next few weeks. Details will be shared through her Facebook and Instagram pages.
It has been a joy to support Lia's creativity and share it with all of you. Thank you for sharing all your good wishes and fond memories.
In shared pain and joy,
Bernard de la Cruz
P.S. If you are inclined or inspired, please share with Lia's communities (OBB, Murderinos, etc).
