Hi everyone, ( in the spirit of Tupac's song, Dear Mama.)
My mom, a Fisk University alumni, is being honored this year by the Living Legends Foundation (LLF) with the Mike Bernardo Female Executive Award.
She spent 15 years in radio doing news (which she liked to call BC-before children.). The next 21 years were spent at the industry trade, "Urban Network" where she evolved into a music industry exec as VP/Managing Editor. As a daughter of a Tuskegee Airman, she was no stranger to hard work and perseverance. She was the 1st Black female News Director in STL (1975 WESL, KADI/KXLW & KKSS) and Los Angeles (1983 KGFJ and KUTE)
Inducted into the STL Media Hall of Fame in 2020 and the Library of Congress (Black Women in Radio) 2023, mom is amazed that folks still remember as she hit 73 years of age.
The LLF is a non profit dedicated to preserving the rich legacy of those who shape America's broadcast and recording industries. Her friend, mentor and boss, the late Jerry Boulding was a co-founder of the group.
I am helping her raise funds to purchase ads in the program to keep the work going. No matter how small or large ALL PROCEEDS will go to the LLF. (Did I tell you as a kid, I was at the UN music conferences and she still took time to tuck us in at night). Thank you for all your help and your name will be featured in the ad. Deadline is August 18 to donate.
A loving daughter,
Imelda Smith
