From DC to Kyoto: Celebrating 10 Years of SylviDances
My name is Sylvana Christopher, and for the last decade, SylviDances has been a home for accessible dance and artistic opportunity in the DMV. As we enter our 10th year, we are embarking on our most ambitious project yet: a quest for balance and stability.
The Project: Kyoto & Beyond
What began as a piece for National Choreography Month DC has grown into a full-scale work exploring the universal need for grounding. We are honored to announce that we have been invited to perform this work in June 2026 at the Attune Dance Festival in Kyoto, Japan. Taking our DC-born choreography to the historic capital of Japan is a dream come true, but we need your help to get there.
Where Your Donation Goes
Your support will be split to fuel both art and advocacy. We are raising funds to cover:
Artist Support: Fair stipends for our dancers and rehearsal space rentals.
Production: Costume design and travel costs to Kyoto.
Direct Impact: A portion of all proceeds will be donated to support immigrant families currently facing targeted discrimination and hardship.
We believe that art cannot exist in a vacuum. As we perform a piece about "balance," we want to help restore balance to families in our community who are being targeted simply for their heritage.
Help us celebrate 10 years of dance by making a difference both on and off the stage.
