My name is Desai Bailey. I am originally a native of Jamaica now living in the United States. I was born in Hopewell in the parish of Hanover. This is in the western part of the island, approximately 66-67 km (about 41 miles) from Black River where Hurricane Melissa made landfall on October 28, 2025.
Hurricane Melissa had a catastrophic impact on the country as a category 5 hurricane, with wind speeds of 185 mph and gusts of up to 215 mph. Melissa was the strongest storm in recorded history to ever make landfall on the island nation. This destruction has slowed aid deliveries and delayed the restoration of essential services. As a result of the current conditions affecting my family, close friends, and relatives, I have decided to start this GoFundMe campaign to support those whose properties were badly damaged, destroyed, or lost.
Even though there is a lot of help going into the country, many people in the Western community still have not seen those aids yet. Every donation can help provide food, clothing, water, furniture, generators, and a chance to rebuild and address many of the challenges they are currently facing and will inevitably face over the next several months and near future.
