Cedar’s Healed, Now It’s Time To Heal Mom & Dad
Donation protected
Mom Jordan and Dad Olivier spent the last year with the reality that they could lose their son, Cedar's life. Instead of nesting as a family and enjoying the firsts new parents dream of, they were gripped with fear, dread, and loneliness at this harsh truth they faced.
Cedar was born with Hirschsprung's disease, a rare genetic disease which left him unable to poop since birth. He underwent four extensive surgeries over a 12 month period - the first surgery within a week of life. Cedar's journey with Hirschsprung's is finally over, as the fourth surgery was completed in December. Mom and Dad were able to receive their Christmas miracle of changing their son's first ever poopy diaper. Cedar is now healed and thriving.
Jordan and Olivier are now dealing with the impact after the most traumatic year of their lives. The weight of this experience is now fully setting in as they begin the next chapter of their journey as a family. Financially, the past year has impacted them severely. Their priority was the survival of their son, which meant continuous hospital stays and countless appointments with doctors and specialists.
Professional mental health guidance is necessary for Jordan and Olivier to process the intensity of this severe, emotional trauma. In our society, mental health support can look many different ways. For their family, it is essential that Jordan and Olivier have access to a therapist who is trauma-informed and who understands the complexities specifically relating to Birth Trauma. This means that they are able to understand the nuances and complexities of how traumas compound between generations, events, and individual moments. In addition, Jordan is a woman of Native American and Black heritage - two cultures who have been subjected to centuries of deep and systemic trauma. It is paramount to their healing that their therapist has a background in supporting biracial folks and has an understanding of systemic awareness.
As the family's insurance does not cover such therapists and healers, the full amount of your donation will be going towards shouldering the cost of therapists and therapy modalities that would align with the very specific type of healing the family needs.
