Cedar Drill Team Sparkle and Shine
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Brittney Corry; I coach the Cedar High School Drill Team. We're raising funds to support the team as we compete this season. Funds raised will help us pay for costumes and accessories, props, team warm-ups and bags, and the less fun stuff: travel, hotel rooms, competition fees, etc. In addition to covering some of our team expenses, we hope to raise enough money to give our hard-working team members a letterman jacket, a gift to represent their drill team experience they can treasure for a lifetime. I hope you'll read on and learn more about this team and how you can help them achieve their dreams!
What is Drill Team?
In Utah, Drill Team is a year-round, highly competitive dance sport. Drill teams also perform at school events such as assemblies and halftimes, as well as community events such as parades and fundraisers. Student-athletes must have grades in good standing and excellent citizenship to audition for the team. Practices are usually early mornings, before school. Team members must be incredibly responsible and balance school work, family commitments, work, and studio dance with their demanding Drill Team schedule. Hard work pays off as the year progresses, the team bonds, and routines improve.
We compete in 4 routines: Pom, Military, Dance, and Show. Pom is upbeat and fun and Military is its intense evil twin. Both routines demand precise and strong movements, lots of formation changes, and dynamic visuals. Dance routine is the most technical of our routines and includes advanced kicks, leaps, turns, and high energy faces. Show routine is a fun one; the idea is to put on a show and really entertain the audience and judges. Each team picks a character, this year we are iconic Purple People Eaters! This routine is incredible, and our costumes take it to the next level: 28 custom suits with wings, hoods, horns, and a sparkling eyeball prop that attaches to the front of the costume for a fun surprise!
About Cedar Drill Team:
In 1965, our team was founded as a marching club called Mohey Tawa. Since then, the sport of marching has evolved into dance, but we've kept our name! Our team has 28 members ranging from freshmen to seniors. This year, the team has their hearts and eyes on the prize of placing at the State Finals. We coaches see their hard work pay off each practice as they repeatedly exceed our expectations and go above and beyond for their team members.
Why Support Our Team?
While we love our sport of dance, it comes at a cost. Physically, emotionally, and especially financially. This team is willing to pay the physical bill. They wake up each morning and spend their first few hours of the day together, pushing themselves and their teammates to improve. As days turn to weeks and weeks to months, the girls also experience an emotional toll. One of the most rewarding parts of this sport is the bonds these girls develop, and as coaches, we see them help their teammates through the difficulties of the sport, not to mention the big and small trials of life along the way. There seems to be no limit to the light within this team; they continue to shine no matter what they are facing. Where we come short is financing their dreams. We compete against teams with seemingly endless budgets. We need your support to help the team see their hard work pay off at State Finals.
This dedicated team could use help from community and family members who want to offer support and encouragement to allow these girls to achieve their goals and reap the benefits of their many months of hard work and diligence! Please help these girls compete at the top level and gain something special they will wear with pride. Your donation, large or small, WILL make a significant impact.
On behalf of the Cedar High Drill Team and their families, thank you for your support.
