Cecilia's Journey with Osteosarcoma

Donation protected

Family and friends would like to raise money for Cecilia Nguyen and her family. Cecilia was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in March 2013. Sadly, our dear Cecillia passed away on October 11th surrounded by those she loved most.

Cecilia's journey has been a difficult time for everyone involved. After diagnosis, she had a couple rounds of chemo to attack the tumor growing inside her hip. Unfortunately, the chemo did not work and the doctors had to remove and replace a part of the bone in her hip. A couple months had passed and we were devastated to find out that the cancer had metastasized into her lungs and she would need surgery to remove it.

A year later, the cancer had spread to her shoulder and she would have to undergo 6 more cycles of chemotherapy. The chemo was unsuccessful and resulted in her having to amputate her left arm in July 2016. Through out all of this, Cecilia has shown more bravery and perseverance than most of us will ever have in a lifetime. She never complained and was willing to do whatever it took to get back to a normal life every 13-year-old deserves to have.

We had high hopes at this stage but her tumors came back and spread to both lungs.

For those who haven't been blessed to get to know Cecilia like we have, she was a very bright, kind, creative young lady. Her passion was to attend Medical school at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill to become a doctor specializing in children's cancer so she could help people in her situation. She loved her dog, Oreo, and could never pass up an ice cream cake.

Cecilia's older sister, Valerie, started a cancer support club at Centreville High School. She has given so much support to the cancer community and it is our goal to give some back to the Nguyen family.

Both of Cecilia's parents have taken leave from work so they could look after their daughter full time. We are so thankful for the amount raised already. We ask that you please continue to pray for Cecilia and the entire Nguyen family during this difficult time.
