Cecilia Ekblad, originally diagnosed in February 2024 at age 15, continues to battle osteosarcoma (bone cancer) which is now considered metastatic since it's been confirmed in her lungs.
In late November 2023 she began having soreness in her knee which was attributed to an active lifestyle, "growing pains", etc. The pain seemed to sort of subside over Christmas but came back with a vengeance in mid-January. After trying all the things (rest, ice, ibuprofen) the family went in for an X-ray. Shortly after those results, Cecilia was sent for an MRI, CT scan, biopsy, etc. and fast tracked through pediatric oncology at UM Hospital. Her official diagnosis of Osteosarcoma came in mid-February 2024.
She began chemo treatments shortly thereafter, had a pretty successful surgery with near zero margin removal of the main tumor from her leg in early June 2024 and continued with chemo treatments through October 2024. Unfortunately, we learned not long after her "clap out" finishing chemo treatments that a lung surgery was necessary and pathology upon a successful surgery removing two tumors indicated metastatic osteosarcoma present in her lungs. Cecilia will now re-begin chemo treatments every 3-4 weeks starting in mid-November 2024 with another lung surgery likely in the future.
Please pray with the family for a miracle! Rosaries, Divine Mercy Chaplets, Holy Hours, Masses, spiritual bouquets, and MEALS gratefully accepted!
In addition to your prayers and help with meals, as friends of the family, we wanted to also start this fundraiser to help the Ekblads proactively and financially with Cecilia's medical bills and to make up for any of Amy and Jesse's lost wages as they accompany Cecilia to the many appointments and treatments she'll need to fight this battle!!
Thank you and God bless you for your generosity. We have updated the amount again as of 3/2026 due to the ongoing costs and wages lost due to required hospital stays.
In lieu of Cecilia's scans from 1/6/2026, we raised the bar again to help cover the expenses of flying down to Florida to move her out of her dorm at Ave Maria University. After two additional lung surgeries in February 2026, the family is looking to travel to Lourdes in mid-May 2026 in hopes of a miracle, since both recent surgeries revealed all lung nodules (removed) were positive for metastatic cancer and pretty aggressive cancer cells were found in the lung walls.
Jesus, we love You. Jesus, we thank You (ahead of time). Jesus, we trust in You. We have only today, let us begin.
