The Ceari Scholar Fund is a scholarship for college(2 or 4 year) or trade school bound seniors in high school who have been directly impacted by the criminal justice system. Specifically, this scholarship is for scholars who have:
-been incarcerated
or
-who have immediate family(or members of their household) who have been incarcerated
and
- are graduates of Sacramento High School(Oak Park, Sacramento, CA).
This scholarship will provide two college or trade bound seniors a $2500 award each to cover the cost of tuition, living or school related expenses. In addition to the award, scholars will receive mentorship in their first year of school.
The Ceari Scholar Fund is named in honor of Ceari, a young person who had direct and indirect exposure to the criminal justice system and who is currently serving a lengthy sentence for which the punishment does not fit the crime. Ceari is a bright, charismatic young person and his family and community wishes to support other youth like him in their path.
We know that any applicants applying to this scholarship have all that they need to succeed intrinsically, we only hope that extra support(via mentorship) and monetary support can ease the burden of the expenses related to school and stress related to transitioning into a new stage of life.
The goal is to eventually expand the fund to non-traditional students and in other areas, for now, high school seniors from Sacramento High School are the target population. Any unused monies from the 2021 school year will roll into a trust for the next year's scholars.
