Georgie's Medical Fund

Last February my boyfriend George participated in a blood drive sponsored through his work. A few days later he received a phone call from the donation center urging him to seek immediate medical attention and further blood analysis. He went to the emergency room to have more blood drawn, it was there that he learned he had Leukemia, a biopsy done the following day provided a diagnosis of Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. His white blood cell count was over twenty times the normal number and his spleen was dangerously inflamed. He spent two days in the hospital in Denver before returning home to Portland, OR for treatment. As we move forward his spirits remain high, and his condition should improve with regular treatments. However, while his insurance will cover most of the cost, he is still needs to pay a sizable deductible towards medical expenses. The money we are trying to raise will be of great assistance towards this financial burden. 

George is one of the most wonderful people I have ever known. Never intimidated to strike up a conversation with anyone, he strives to bring positivity to those around him, this could be in the form of a bad food joke or simply a listening ear. Whether it's an open couch, a good meal or shoulder to lean on you can always count on him to be there. He is no stranger to volunteering his time to community outreach, such as the Ronald McDonald house. There is a strange irony in how his desire to help others in turn helped him in discovering his condition.

Anyone who knows him is more than aware that he isn’t one to ask for help, especially financially. Self-reliance has always been an important quality to him, but sometimes the best thing to do is acknowledge when assistance is needed and be willing to ask for it.
