Who is Aspen Piggott?

Aspen Piggott is a four-year-old little girl who was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome plus Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (in layman terms: kidney failure).
Aspen is the sweetest little girl with an amazing spirit. She loves Minnie Mouse, sings her favorite song, “I Believe I Can Fly”, and wants to be a nurse when she grows up so she can help other people. She has so much love, kindness and caring in her heart. Aspen loves to play with other kids and is very social but her disease has made it hard for her to keep up with the other kids. She has compensated by learning to write the letters of the alphabet, draw and color. Her favorite foods are Pizza and Hot Dogs which she is now restricted from eating due to a very strict diet.
She is loved by her parents Ryan and Tawni, her sibling’s; Athen, Oakley and Zoey, Wellsville, UT, grandparents; Alan and Sandy Griffitts, Hayden ID; Russ and Kathy Piggott, Wellsville, UT and too many aunts, uncles and cousins to mention.
I’m just the neighbor lady next door to her grandparents in Hayden ID, who wants to help this little angel Aspen and her family.
This all started in September of 2017 when Aspen got very sick. In November she received her diagnosis. Doctors said it could by 1-5 years before needing a kidney transplant, however, Aspen’s form of Kidney Disease is rare and very aggressive. She has been resistant to all drugs that usually work for most people and after several test and biopsies, just a few months later, Aspen is now in Stage 5 kidney failure. She underwent surgery in June for a peritoneal dialysis catheter that was placed in her tummy to serve as a port for her dialysis. She will remain on dialysis for 10 hours each day from home for at least 6 months while she waits to become healthy enough to be put on the transplant list. At that point it will be 5 days to 2 years before she may receive a new kidney. Her chances of a new kidney being attacked are 75%. She is a tough little girl and remains upbeat and happy. Just two months ago, in May, she taught herself how to ride her two wheel bike much to the amazement of her doctors.
Aspen has a long road ahead since it is unclear how long it will take before she will get a new kidney and then when she finally does get one she may still have a long fight on her hands to make sure that a new kidney will stay healthy.

How the funds can help

Aspen is receiving treatment at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT, which is 75+ miles and about 1.5 hours away from her home in Wellsville. They have had to travel 2-4 days a week back and forth to the hospital. With all the needed travel for Aspens care and treatment, Tawni has had to cut her work hours drastically. Ryan continues his work fulltime.
Both Ryan and Tawni’s parents have helped and supported with caring for Aspens siblings while her parents are with her at the hospital.
The funds will help the Piggott family with the growing medical and travel bills.

Please keep Aspen and the Piggott/Griffitts families in your prayers. Thank you for your kindness. I will keep you updated as time goes on.
