Keep Our Pack Whole: Save Buddy's Life
Donation protected
Buddy is a 6-year-old Alaskan malamute who joined our family (or, as we now call ourselves, our pack) in 2015. From the moment Buddy entered our lives, he has become our whole world— especially the world of my brother, Dimitri, a 21-year-old boy with Down syndrome.
Buddy has given us the gift of laughter when he chases wild turkeys, or eats the food off our plates when we aren’t looking.
Buddy has given us memories, such as the time he chewed all of the new sprinklers my dad has installed, or the time he chewed the sprinklers again after my dad replaced them.
Buddy has protected us from the scary delivery drivers that try to bring us our packages (he means well, he promises!!).
Buddy has brought us the gift of comfort when we most needed it, such as when my grandfather suddenly passed.
Buddy loves: Netflix movie nights; treats (he prefers McDonald’s sausage patties); the holidays (he likes a full house and presents); the cats (even if they don’t love him); nighttime walks; cold weather and playing in the snow (he’s from Alaska after all).
More than anything else, though, Buddy loves his pack.
Buddy dislikes: delivery drivers and getting groomed (in his defense, he has a lot of fur); summertime (he’s from Alaska after all).
More than anything else, though, Buddy hates when his pack is not altogether.
Unfortunately, on Christmas Eve of 2021, Buddy’s breathing slowed and he stopped eating. After bringing him to the vet, we learned that he has a condition called spontaneous pneumothorax, which causes air to enter outside of his lungs, and inside his chest wall. Unless Buddy receives immediate surgical intervention, his lungs will collapse. Without this surgery, the chance of death is at minimum 50%.
Please consider donating to our page so that Buddy can receive the surgery he needs to save his life. Any contribution, regardless of how big or small, will give Buddy a second chance at life.
If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing our page.
Please help us keep our pack whole.
