Hello everyone,
Update 10/21/2024
FEMA reached out after me sending out my appeals and it almost being a month of not hearing back much information. All the lady on the phone could tell me are the same correspondence I can view and that’s about it. And say they can get to my case when they can…I fully understand I am not the only person in dire need. But…we are in need. And I don’t know what else to do. I’m grateful to my family we don’t have to be in a shelter/hotel. And for their huge help with the kids and us. But anybody knows, that nothing feels like home without being together….
Update 10/12/2024
FEMA finally reached out, had an investigator come out to see our home. Took pictures and asked multiple questions. A couple days later, they sent correspondence asking me to appeal my vehicle damage, Kris’ CPAP machine and overall my home and belongings ruined….you want me to appeal something that has been ruined? That an employee saw? We haven’t even received our $750 for essential needs…or been offered housing. I don’t understand how this is fair. Or why kick us while we are down…
Like most residents of Florida, on September 26, 2024, we suffered the unimaginable loss of our home, belongings, and vehicles. Our proactiveness to prepare for the storm was not enough for the destruction of Hurricane Helene’s storm surge in our area.
We are so appreciative of our families and friends that have helped us and continue to do so. Also, of our communities that have rallied around us.
Creating this is out of desperation and need. We are asking for assistance for the long road we are about to face in rebuilding. We lost our home, belongings, and vehicles. Having my family displaced is the most gut-wrenching and despairing feeling. But if I have to reach out and ask for help in any way, I will do it for them.
We have done our part with applying through FEMA and claims with insurance, but since we are not the only ones experiencing this catastrophe, we know we must have patience and follow the process. We just want to get started somewhere until the help can start from Disaster Resources.
We are at the mercy of everyone and we appreciate everything. We are grateful.
All of our love,
The Garcias
