The University of California-Riverside's tradition of naming buildings after places in Scotland began with the first residence hall, Aberdeen-Inverness, in 1959. Since then, a number of locations on campus--Pentland Hills, Lothian, Bannockburn, and Glen Mor, for example--have followed in this tradition. Moreover, Scottish history and culture are intrinsic elements to UCR's identity.
This summer, a group of students will travel to Scotland with Media & Cultural Studies professor Richard T. Rodriguez. While there, we will visit a number of cultural institutions by which our campus is inspired while studying histories of contemporary popular music and culture from the U.K.
We are raising funds for the students to help cover costs to help guarantee financial security while abroad. All funds raised will provide for food and admission to various events. Funds will be divided evenly amongst the students.
Thank you for your time and support.
Cheers!
