Over the past 4 years, after an undiagnosed long term illness, numerous ER visits, blood transfusions, and iron IV infusions, Jason Douglas has lost approximately 80 pounds. On January 31, 2021, Jason was rushed by ambulance and admitted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston in critical condition with severe abdominal pain and lack of blood flow to numerous major organs. This life threatening condition ultimately led to an extensive and extremely invasive 9 hour Portal Vein By-Pass surgery, which left him on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit for an extended period of time. By the grace of God, Jason was able to be removed from the ventilator and is currently recovering.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, he is still unable to see his family. Unfortunately, three teams of doctors still do not have an actual diagnosis for the cause of Jason’s complex medical issues. The doctors have indicated that these complex issues will most likely have chronic and residual effects on his long term health.
After serving with the United States Marine Reservists for 4 years, Jason is a current 20 year veteran of the West Springfield Police Department. Jason is 40 years old, an amazing father of three, a dedicated husband as well as a great friend to many. Jason loves life and his family and he considers his friends to be family. He has a quick wit and is the type of person you would love to surround yourself with.
As a true Marine reservist and a dedicated police officer, Jason is a fighter and true defender of others. Though he and his family have a long road ahead, the battle will be worth it when he can come home and get healthy. The cost of the long term care, unpaid medical expenses, visiting nurses, and travel expenses to and from Boston are unimaginable. Thank you for taking the time to read about Jason’s story and struggle. Any amount of support and donation you feel moved to offer will be greatly appreciated.
