The Canadian Centre for Mental Health and Sport (CCMHS) is a not-for-profit organization supporting the mental health and performance of competitive and high-performance athletes and coaches. The CCMHS is the first Centre in Canada to offer collaborative sport-focused mental health care services designed to help athletes and coaches achieve their performance goals while preserving their mental health and well-being.

The CCMHS rests on 3 pillars of success: Intregrated Care, Research, and Community Engagement.

Integrated Care
We provide specialized, interdisciplinary, mental health services in-house and through telehealth in an effective, timely and reliable manner. Our holistic and comprehensive approach underscores both mental health and athletic performance.

Our aim is to lead research in mental health and mental illness in sport, and to uncover the links between mental health and athletic performance. Knowledge is translated into actions, programs and policies to create and sustain positive change.

Community Engagement
We engage individuals and organizations to change the culture of sport by revolutionizing perceptions of mental health and mental illness. By creating partnerships and fostering learning and peer support, our aim is to improve help-seeking and lifelong access to care.

Why We Need Your Support
The CCMHS is the product of an evidence-based research project carried out between November 2017 and January 2020. This means that the decisions made about the care and services offered within the CCMHS are based on sound inquiry. Our stakeholders, community partners, board of directors, practitioners, and research assistants are collaboratively designing, implementing, and evaluating the first integrated, sport-centered mental health care model for Canadian competitive and high-performance athletes and coaches.

To ensure the success and sustainability of the CCMHS and specialized mental health care for athletes and coaches, our aim is the raise $250,000 CAD.

Funds are used to support activities and fees related to the advancement and operations of the CCMHS, including the electronic medical records system, telehealth service delivery platform, equipment, project management staff, insurance, office/clinic space, supplies, subsidization for service-users, legal counsel, document translation, and ongoing research and knowledge translation activities.

How You Can Make a Difference
Mental health affects everyone, including athletes and coaches. With 7.2 million Canadians regularly engaging in sport, and with 1 in 5 people experiencing a major mental illness in Canada each year, there could be as many as 1.4 million athletes and coaches struggling with mental health challenges each year.

Athletes and coaches have unique needs that cannot be ignored. Their mental health needs should be met by a specialized team of practitioners who fully understand the competitive and high-performance sport environment. Currently, there is a lack of specialists in Canada who can address athletes' and coaches' mental health challenges. The CCMHS will fill this vital gap.

You can help shift mental health TALK to mental health ACTION by supporting the CCMHS. Your contributions will have a long-term impact by improving athletes' and coaches' access to care and lifelong participation in sport.

Supporters wishing to direct financial contributions may do so by specifying one of the following areas: (1) Core Operations, (2) Research, (3) Community Engagement, and (4) Adopt an Athlete, where funds will be used to subsidize care for athletes who meet eligibility requirements but cannot afford it.
