On March 30 to April 5, myself, chaperons, and FYC particpants will be embarking on a College, Community, and Kapwa exposure trip funded by the Innovation Grant from the SF Education Fund.
The College, Community and Kapwa exposure trip is aimed at:
· Allowing students to understand the connection between pursuing higher education and being able to make changes in their communities
· Providing Filipino/a students with an opportunity to network with Filipino/a community organizations, fraternities, and sororities associated with each college and surrounding community
· Supporting students in gaining a greater understanding of their history, culture, and identity
While on the exposure trip students will be able to visit several colleges in Southern California, UC Northridge, UC Riverside, UCLA, Cal State Fullerton, and Long Beach State. Additionally we will build with community organizations and local organizers.
In addition to learning about the different colleges and Filipin@ communities, we would like the opportunity to visit Disneyland. However, a trip to Disneyland is not funded by the grant we were awarded. For many FYC participants this is their first experience visiting the Los Angeles area and I want to be sure they have the opportunity to have a once in a lifetime experience.
In order to provide students with this opportunity I am kindly requesting for your support in helping us fund our College, Community, and Kapwa exposure trip. Your support will help us have a more memorable and fun exposure trip.
We will be organizing a Report Back event to share what we have learned, how we have grown, and what next steps we will take with the knowledge and skills we have learned. We look forward to inviting you.
Maraming Salamat Po,
Gabriel aka Delrokz aka Mr. de la Cruz
