Crystal Climbs for Cystic Fibrosis is to raise awareness & proceeds for cystic fibrosis research to benefit those who need it most!
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a hereditary respiratory & digestive disease. This genetic mutation causes the body to produce thicker mucous within the bodies of the patients compared to those of normal people. In turn, this mucous clogs the airways of the lungs and prevents the pancreas from developing essential proteins that the body needs to process & digest ingested nutrients; cystic fibrosis ultimately suffocates and starves the patients to death. Even though research is continually being conducted, a cure has not been found for this wretched illness. Because of this, the average life expectancy of a person with cystic fibrosis is around 35 years. My goal with this is to bring the disease, and the daily struggles of those affected by it, into the public eye.
My name is Crystal Park and I have been dealing with CF for 23 years. I've fought my entire life to keep myself going, to never look back, and to overcome the biggest obstacles, most of which people cannot see. Unfortunately, not every CF patient is like me.
Most CFers can't even walk up the stairs in their house, let alone the skyline of Colorado. I've been blessed with great health, relatively speaking, for most of my life and I feel that I should use this gift to fight for those who aren't as blessed.
