The state of South Carolina was hit with a historical 1,000 year flood over the weekend of October 2nd.  Areas all over the state have been affected, including the capital city of Columbia, S.C, which is the home of the Columbia Classical Ballet Company.

On the morning of Sunday, October 4th, Columbia woke up to the news of a tremendous flood in the city.  Lives were lost, homes and businesses destroyed, and among those businesses was Columbia Classical Ballet's home, the Pavlovich Dance School. Radenko Pavlovich is the Artistic Director of the Company and the owner of the dance school.

There is a long road ahead for our city and state, and for the Columbia Classical Ballet Company.  They are a company of 32 dancers from all over the world who have come to Columbia to train and share their love of ballet with the community.  Each year the company performs for thousands of students to help educate them about the art form.  The company has developed some of the best dancers performing in the ballet community today, including Brooklyn Mack, who currently dances with the Washington Ballet.

This past summer the school underwent extensive renovations to update and modernize the dance space.  Everyone involved with the school was excited about the updates and the Company were enjoying dancing in their new space.  The new renovations cost approximately $260,000.

The school is a total loss. There was at least 8 feet of water at the peak of the floods covering the building.  They will need to rebuild, and many people are asking to help.  There is some flood coverage, but Radenko is being told it will not cover all of the cost it will take to rebuild.  They are still assessing the total cost, but we do know that it is going to take at least $100,000 to get started on the road to rebuilding.

We are a strong community. We will rebuild the school, our community, and dance again, but we will need some help to do so.  Thank you all for your support.
