Donny Greene, my dad, recently had a hospitalized hypertensive emergency that led to the discovery of a collapsed aortic valve. He needs to undergo open-heart surgery to have it replaced with a mechanical valve — a costly procedure. He will have to be out of work, without pay, for three months after surgery. Additionally, he was recently diagnosed with slow-moving prostate cancer and will need to undergo testing every three months. This forces him to take more time off work without pay and increases his medical bills significantly.
