Support for Shannon Wood (Holland)
Donation protected
Some of you may not know that in June Shannon suffered a sudden brain hemorrhage. She underwent a decompressive craniectomy (removing part of the skull to allow the brain to swell). She then spent 2 weeks intubated in a minimally conscious state, 8 weeks in hospital, then another 10 weeks in a rehab hospital. Throughout this time there were strict Covid measures in place so in-person visits were limited but her support system was able to communicate and keep in touch via Zoom meetings. It wasn’t until mid-October that she was finally able to go home and see her girls for the first time.
Due to the traumatic brain injury, she has partial paralysis of her left leg and full paralysis of her left arm and requires a wheelchair. She is doing outpatient rehab 3 times a week, working incredibly hard to become independent again.
Shannon requires a chair lift so she is able to get to her bedroom on the 2nd floor. Initial estimates, including installation, are coming in at $15,000 to $20,000.
We are incredibly grateful for any financial support and greatly appreciate the outpouring of love from Shannon's friends and family. Please feel free to reach out to her with a warm message of encouragement if you feel so inclined. 2020 was a tough year for Shannon, Bryce, her girls and their entire family. We wish them nothing but the best for 2021 and hope we can help get her the chair lift as soon as possible.
Thank you and Happy New Year.
PS. Special thanks to Brooke Lehman for suggesting this page be set up in Shannon's honour.
