Hello!
My name is Domenica (Velasco) and I created this fundraising campaign to request support and a helping hand during this intense transitioning period for me and my daughter. I was an international student in Queensland, Australia but things have made an unexpected turn that made me face the decision to go back to our country of origin, USA. Unfortunately, I have been in a domestic violence relationship to which I finally broke free in March and moved to a neighboring state; I couldn't afford living expenses in that state. But at the same time, the pandemic lockdown affected my ability to obtain a job and my savings were sucked in rapidly. I attempted a few ways to stay in Australia and maintain my visa. Unfortunately, being a single mom and not being able to qualify and obtain support from the government because of my residency status made it more challenging for me to continue affording living expenses in Australia. Moreover, I realized I just didn’t have the money for tuition even if I made a payment plan as I could barely cover for rent and and food. Naturally, I faced the decision to withdraw from my degree from University and applied to court to obtain full custody of my child, both of which were approved so I could return home. We were denied financial help to make travel arrangements through agencies because, again, our residential status and we need to leave the country as soon as possible now before we face repercussions of an overstay with a cancelled visa.
I ask you all to please help us get back home with any amount, as every little helps. I have been playing with dates and looking for the more affordable date to depart despite the season. I have attached below a picture of a quote for flight tickets leaving on January 4th, 2021.
Thank you so much for taking your time to read my story and your compassion to our need of help.
Much love,
<3 <3 <3 Domenica and Fiorella (5) <3 <3 <3
