About Me: My name is Camille Balagtas and I am currently in the 8th grade. The last semester of 7th grade, I earned a 4.0 GPA. From 1st through 6th grade, I was apart of the Dual Immersion Program at my elementary school. This program taught all subjects in Spanish and I am now fluent in the language. I also play competitive soccer for DMCV Sharks Soccer Club and run on the Running Club at my school. This upcoming summer I will have the opportunity to travel to the East Coast with my 8th grade class.
About the Trip: On this trip, we will visit New York, Washington DC, Boston, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. Eighth grade History focuses on American History; therefore this trip has a lot of educational value.
Some places we will visit in Boston are the battle sites of Lexington and Concord, Harvard University, and the Boston Massacre site.
In New York some of the places we will visit are the Rockefeller Center, Chinatown, Wall Street, and the Statue of Liberty. We are also going to watch a live Broadway Show.
In Pennsylvania we will visit the National Constitution Center, the Amish farmlands, the Gettysburg Battlefield, and tour the Independence National Historic Park. We will also have the chance to go on a rafting trip adventure on the Shenandoah River during our quick visit to West Virginia.
Finally, we will take the bus to Washington, DC. There, we will see the Lincoln, Korean War, Jefferson, and Marine Corps War Memorials. We will also visit the U.S. Capitol Building, the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court, the Smithsonian Institution, the Arlington Cemetery, several memorials, and the White House.
This trip sounds like an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity to travel and learn alongside my friends and classmates, so I’m very lucky for this opportunity to go. Unfortunately, the trip is no longer sponsored by our school so we have to pay the whole $2700. My parents did not anticipate having to spend this large amount of money, but agreed to pay half if I can earn enough to pay the other half. I will be refereeing soccer games, selling Ryan Bros coffee and Butter Braid pastries, turning in recyclable items, and hopefully tutoring to raise the money. In addition, I am using this website to ask family and friends for donations. :)
Thank you for your support!!
Love,
Camille Balagtas
