Megan Spellman (my sister) is 43 years old, a devoted single mom, and the kind of person who shows up for others without ever asking for anything in return. Recently, her life was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with aggressive Stage 3C ER/PR-, HER2+ breast cancer which has metastasized to axillary lymph nodes.
If you know her, you know her strength. She is facing this diagnosis the same way she faces everything: with her shoulders squared, her head held high, and an unwavering focus on doing what needs to be done. She takes each day as it comes—choosing optimism even when the road ahead is heavy, choosing courage even when she is exhausted.
She is kind, generous, and deeply loving. She has always put others first, especially her daughter, who is her priority. Right now, her greatest wish is to be present, healthy, and strong for CJ while she undergoes intense treatment.
Cancer doesn’t just take a physical toll—it brings emotional and financial strain that no one should have to carry alone. Between medical treatments, time away from work, and the everyday costs of caring for her daughter, the burden adds up quickly. Her insurance out-of-pocket max is $8,000/year. She hit that for 2025 shortly after diagnosis and will do the same for 2026 over the next couple months. According to a report by the American Cancer Society, stress doesn’t only impact your mental well-being; it can also affect physical recovery, immune function, and even how your body processes medications. Reducing her stress can result in a very real improvement in how her body responds to treatment.
This GoFundMe is a way for us to surround her with the support she so freely gives to others. Every donation, share, and message of encouragement helps lift a little weight off her shoulders so she can focus on what matters most: healing and being there for her daughter. Every donation will go directly to Meg’s medical bills and to help cover expenses so that she can take her worst days off work without additional worry.
I know we are just coming out of the holiday season but her cancer isn’t waiting for better timing. My hope is that if we all come together we can make a difference. Thank you for standing with her in this fight.
[Please note that every $5 is very helpful. Also, this fundraiser has been set up so that Megan is the direct beneficiary and the only person with access to donated funds.]
