May 8th 2024 update -
We are happy to report that Alia, and her siblings have completed the harrowing journey to safety out of Gaza. Although they are devastated to leave their ancestral home, they are alive. Alia was able to cross at Rafah a mere 90 minutes before Isreal shut the border recently, beginning a military offensive on Rafah. There have been so many people who have worked hard to make this happen and contributed greatly to this cause and we are so very thankful to each of you.
See below for more of the story:
My name is Elliot and I'm writing on behalf of my friend Erica. We both live in Vermont, and we are raising funds for our friend Alia. Erica met Alia during a peace and human rights program in Maine. Alia Oriban and her siblings Amer Abuorieban and Abeer Abuorieban are currently trying to flee Gaza. They are all facing severe hunger and starvation and the bombings are now happening in their neighborhood. Though they never imagined leaving their homes in Gaza, it has gotten to the point where they have no choice but to go to Rafah and cross the border into Egypt.
Alia is a school teacher and has dedicated her life to the children of Gaza. She is also a peace and human rights educator and has participated in international peace and human rights initiatives. Her siblings are devoted parents and partners trying to reunite with their children who have already fled and made it to safety.
Anything you can give to support Alia and her family would literally be life saving. Thank you.
If we raise $6000, Alia's sister will leave. If we raise $12,000, both Alia's sister and brother will cross the border to Egypt. If we raise all $18,000 Alia will join her siblings on the path to safety.
Elliot will be withdrawing funds to send to their brother who will bring them to Egypt as soon as possible, so please consider donating today.
