I have a big family that I always wanted to meet who are all the way across the ocean. I want to meet my aunts/uncles, cousins, great aunties/uncles, and most of all, my grandfather. Since I was 5 years-old, I have kept a jar -- a big, empty nori jar (dried seaweed) in my room and have been trying to collect coins. My wish has always been to meet my family.
Now that I am 13, I also want to learn about my Ryukyuuan culture and heritage. I want to learn the language, history, and martial arts. I want to see the eisa matsuri and see for myself people who are trained in the ancient Okinawan karate. Also, I know that history is being made right now after the 70th anniversary since the war ended. I want to be there to witness the peace movement.
These are my dreams and wishes and I hope you can help me pursue them.
My goal to make this trip possible next summer of 2016 is $4,000. This amount includes: $2500 in air fare, $150 in transportation within and among islands to visit family, $75 in visits to cultural sites, $80 for the visit to the Okinawan Peace Memorial where my family members are remembered, $580 in Okinawan karate seminars & visit to the world karate tournaments taking place there, and $400 in living expenses and transportation fees for 4 weeks. Any help would be really appreciated.
Thank you so much for your support! You are my superheroes*.
