Caylie's Road To Recovery

Donation protected

Caylie's Story:

At just 18 years old, Caylie had the world at her fingertips and was about to be off to University of Michigan in the fall of 2021 to begin her collegiate field hockey career. Caylie has distinguished herself as not only one of the top goal keepers in New England, but one of the top goal keepers in the country, as she has been a key member of USA Field Hockey's U17 and U19 National Teams for several years. A Native of Stowe MA, Caylie was a multi-sport athlete at Nashoba High School and graduated in 2020. She is an active member of NorthEast Elite Field Hockey Club. She is the epitome of leader and is loved by all. Her positive attitude and pure love of field hockey is infectious. She's the kid who makes you want to strive for more, to always be the best possible competitor and teammate you can be. On and off the field, Caylie inspires all those who she surrounds herself with- she's a true hero, and absolutely beautiful on the inside and out.

Just a couple weeks ago, our girl Caylie was experiencing severe pain in her lower back and leg. After what she thought would be a standard visit to the doctors to diagnose her with a minor sports related injury, Caylie was unfortunately presented with the news that she had a tumor embedded into her spine. On March 13th, Caylie had surgery to remove the tumor. Although the surgeons were successful in removing the tumor, Caylie has unfortunately been left partially paralyzed in her left leg. The road to recovery has so many unknowns, and her prognosis is uncertain for the time being. After spending about a week at Boston Children's, Caylie was transferred to Spaulding Rehab for the remainder of her physical therapy and all other treatment. At Spaulding, Caylie will re-learn how to walk again, gain back feeling and mobility in her lower body, and work towards gaining back as much nerve sensation as she can. She is at one of the best rehab facilities in the country, there is no doubt that she will walking strongly and independently out of that hospital once her time has come to an end.
