I am 31 weeks pregnant with my second (a boy) and I am in the hospital with Covid pneumonia. Someone is crying out in the hall, I can’t hear what they’re saying but it sounds like they’re trying to explain something. There are a lot of voices outside my door; it keeps getting left open just a bit and there’s a lot going on. It took almost two days to get upstairs from the ER.

The first night I slept alone in a room, on a bed not meant for sleeping with a plastic toilet chair next to me. The toilet chair saved me that first day - it was too hard to unhook all the wires and walk down the hall to the bathroom by myself. The nurses are fantastic. Running around checking vitals and making sure we all get what we need. Day two the nurse came in and saw my plastic bucket toilet and said, “I think I saw a room open across the hall with a bathroom, would you like to move there?” I did want to move there. She gave me a robe, and socks, and a pillow. I felt like a Queen. I hadn’t asked for anything major I wasn’t really sure what I needed, but she knew what I needed.

This long hospital stay was an unexpected part of our year and we are reaching out for help with pregnancy medical expenses and Covid expenses. My oldest daughter, Stevie is healthy and staying home with dad while I recover. I’ve missed work for two weeks and that might be more but we are trusting that we will have everything we need when we need it. If you are willing and able to help, please do so as it will fill such a big need we were not expecting and help us prepare for the birth of our son in 2 short months.
