About six weeks ago, Cayde had some apparent lameness in his left-hind leg and a possible pulled muscle. His owners, Stephanie and David, took him to the vet. Almost immediately, they received a horrifying prognosis that it was probably sarcoma. The recommended course of action was immediate amputation of the leg to ease the pain, a biopsy to confirm prognosis, physical therapy, and some form of chemo and radiation.
Cayde underwent a biopsy which confirmed the prognosis – he has cancer. However, the type of sarcoma was still undetermined. To his owners, there was no choice, they love Cayde immensely and wanted his pain to end. On October 30th, he underwent surgery to remove the infected leg. Because the type of sarcoma had yet to be identified and could impact the course of treatment, Stephanie and David elected to have a more in-depth biopsy conducted on the amputated leg.
The doctor has now been able to confirm that Cayde suffers from hemangiosarcoma. He will continue to need physical therapy for the foreseeable future and will require chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Stephanie, David, and Cayde are working with their pathologist to determine the best course of action. What we do know is that the procedures that Cayde has undergone total more than $10,000 and the costs will continue to rise. Since his procedure he is doing extremely well, and even though he is now a “tripawd,” his energy has been restored and he is once again spreading joy everywhere he goes.
We want to ensure that Cayde receives the best treatment and maintains the highest quality of life for the remainder of his time here with us. His brother Topaz watches over him day and night and fills his life with happiness. Every day with this wonderful pup is a gift.
I have started my very first fundraising campaign in hopes to provide Cayde and his family some relief. Whether you know Cayde and his family or are a fellow pet lover and know the special bond we share with our furry companions, please help. Any donation is greatly appreciated.
